Self-taught. Started by making replicas and copies of old original sculptures, then- conservation and restoration of sculptures from the collection of the Irkutsk State Museum and Buryat Historical Museum. In 1992 he received an initiation (lung) by Venerable Eshe Lodoi Rinpoche.
Dmitry does sculpture and restorations for Buddhist Temples (Datsan) in Buryatia. Works in bronze. Had a major exhibit of his own original sculptures in the Irkutsk State Art Museum in 1995.
